Wendy Thompson is an academic general dental practitioner (GDP): an NIHR Clinical Lecturer at University of Manchester and GDP in Cumbria. Wendy is the lead author of the FDI World Dental Federation’s 2020 white paper on antibiotics in dentistry. She is also an honorary consultant in the NHS Office of the Chief Dental Officer (England) and advisor to the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE) and British National Formulary (BNF). Awarded by University of Leeds in 2019, her PhD addressed antibiotics during urgent dental appointments. She first graduated back in 1994, from University of Warwick in microbiology
Having graduate in 1994 from the University of Warwick with a degree in microbiology and microbial technology, Wendy worked initially as a scientist in Whitehall. In 2012, she gained with BDS from the University of Liverpool. Her time is now split between Yorkshire and Lancashire, where her family home is in the coastal village of Silverdale on the edge of the Lake District.
