Since 2006, Brian has been working with health authorities and their advisers across countries to enhance the rational use of medicines. Recently, Brian help establishish a group across Africa (MURIA) to research both infectious and non-infectious diseases including evaluating the extent of DTCs and antimicrobial stewardship programmes, antibiotic point prevalence studies, use of antibiotics to prevent SSIs in children and adults, dosing of antibiotics and adherence to guidelines in hospitals, the extent of self-medication with antibiotics in the community and their use to treat URTIs. This has resulted in over 180 publications since 2008.
