Dr Ioannis Baltas is currently an Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology SpR in London . He completed his undergraduate studies in Greece (2011 – 2017), where he witnessed first-hand the burden of antimicrobial resistance. He came to the UK in 2017 to do an MSc in Immunology of Infectious Diseases in the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and then started postgraduate training in St George’s Hospital. He became an Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology SpR in 2023 and was also awarded an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in Infectious Diseases in University College London at the same time. He holds a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, a Postgraduate Certificate in Tuberculosis and a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education. His research interests include antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial stewardship, and medical education and he is currently leading multiple projects on the epidemiology of carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative infections.
