Dr Martin Curran

Consultant Clinical scientist – Clinical Microbiology and Public Health Laboratory, Public Health England, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge

Completed a B.Sc degree in Microbiology at University College Galway and then went on to study the genetics of measles virus at Queen’s University of Belfast, gaining my Ph.D in 1989. In 1994, I shifted into molecular diagnostics taking up a Clinical Scientist post at the Belfast City Hospital, focusing on immunogenetics of transplantation and host susceptibilty to disease. In 2002, I moved to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge to take up the post of “Head of Molecular Diagnostics” in the Microbiology Laboratory, which is now part of Public Health England, and have happily remained there for the last 15 years.
