Gareth Hughes is an ST7 trainee in Microbiology and Infectious diseases, currently based at the UKHSA lab, Birmingham. He has held an NIHR academic clinical fellowship at the Institute of Microbiology and Infection, University of Birmingham, where he carried out work on the effect of organic acids on Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm. He has worked at the MRC Clinical Trials Unit since 2019 as the physician on an international, multi-centre MDR-TB trial and also undertaken research on the effect of drug-resistant TB treatment on patients QT interval
