Professor Martin Llewelyn

After completing post-graduate medical training in London and gaining his PhD in Immunology from Imperial College, Martin was appointed as Senior Lecturer at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and Honorary Consultant at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals in 2004. He established the Kent Surrey and Sussex joint training programme in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and the Clinical Infectious Diseases service at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust where he was lead consultant for the Service until 2015. His main research interests are in the prevention, diagnosis and management of healthcare associated and antibiotic resistant infection. He is an investigator on MRC and NIHR funded research into development of diagnostics in secondary care and optimizing antibiotic prescribing to minimize antibiotic resistance.
